COSIS.net was founded in 2001 and has more than 40,000 active users, mainly geoscientists. More than 50 conferences with a total of 70,000 participants have been planned and executed with the help of this portal. Several scientific journals have been founded and have become market leaders with the use of COSIS — with impact factors over 4.5 and over 7,000 pages published per year. The innovative public peer review / discussion journals have become models for the most current developments in open access publishing. The European Geosciences Union (www.egu.eu) uses COSIS.net tools for the efficient administration of its members, who are scattered all over the world.
